NJSA 18A:35-4.35-36 Contributions of Disabled & LGBT Individuals

Please note, this statute applies to all content areas, not just comprehensive health and PE.

Therefore, it is our understanding that it is exempt from NJSA 18A:35-4.7 (health opt out statute).

​​​​​​​18A:35-4.7. Parent's statement of conflict with conscience

Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school principal a signed statement that any part of the instructions in health, family life education or sex education is in conflict with his conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given and no penalties as to credit or graduation shall result therefrom.
Starting in 2022-2023, K-8 parents will receive information directly from the student's teacher regarding how to opt out of topics as described above.  High School opt out will continue to be done through Genesis.  Parents are encouraged to review the resources on this website and speak to their student's teacher if they have questions about our health program.
