Mary Monahan Wallace, Vice President
My name is Mary Monahan Wallace and I have lived in Fair Lawn since 1978. I have one daughter who received an outstanding education in the Fair Lawn School district and has since become a teacher. I spent 40 years in education and was a teacher in Fair Lawn High School, Memorial and Thomas Jefferson for 29 years, I also taught at Harriman College in NY and in the education department at Montclair University. I have a BS in secondary education, a Master’s Degree in American Literature and 30 credits beyond my Masters in education.
I have been a board member for 12 years, serving on many committees, was Board president and vice president. I am currently serving as vice president for the second time. I serve on the personnel committee, QSAC, am chief negotiator for the secretarial and custodial contracts, serve on the teachers’ negotiations and the administrative negotiations teams, and am on all the dialogue committees with our employees.
I am a certified board member (20 hours of training with NJSBA) and was responsible for spearheading our board first becoming a certified board and then a master board, the first master board in Bergen County. This was achieved by many hours of classes in governance, ethics, school law, policy, etc.
I am on the board because I believe we have a responsibility after our own children are educated to pay forward and see that ALL the children of Fair Lawn receive the best possible education so they can to be prepared in a challenging 21st century world. My whole life has been in education because I believe it is the single most important thing our society can give to our youth.
