Fair Lawn School District

"The Leaders of Tomorrow Attend Fair Lawn Schools Today"

Emily Cohen

My name is Emily Cohen, and I am an Associate Professor of Social Work at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. I received my PhD in Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007. My areas of scholarly expertise include adult development, social inequalities and health across the life course, aging services, community partnerships in aging, and civic engagement in later life. I teach in the Master of Social Work program at Rutgers with a focus on social science theories, research methods, and leadership development for the field of aging.

My husband and I have lived in Fair Lawn since 2014. We are parents of three young children. I am honored to serve on the Board (having started my term in January of 2018) to help our district transition into its bright future and to maintain our schools as a source of great pride for all of Fair Lawn. I believe that Fair Lawn public schools are truly all of our schools, and I seek to serve, in large part, by strengthening the engagement of community members who wish to be involved in various ways.
